Curriculum Coordinator(s)
Name: Jøn Kent Ethridge II
Year: 3rd Year/Transfer
Major(s): Sociology & African American Studies
Career goals: Educator, curriculum developer, actor and fine arts advocate
Why are you on AEP staff? When noticing the invalidity and omitted truths in our American educational system that purposefully leaves out and/or skips over important aspects of afrikan and native american influence on american culture. I became eager in forming a curriculum that speaks to the legacy of afrikan, native american and all people. having the privilege to be apart of a collective of UCLA students that too want to bring equity to our education system is a fulfilling experience of creative collaboration. as the curriculum coordinator, my responsibilities are to develop materials that critically explore afrikan history, culture and folkways.
Other organizational involvements: Financial Aid department employee and UCLA College Honors member.

Volunteer Coordinator(s)
Name: Jaliah T. Sanders
Year: 3rd Year/Transfer
Major(s): African American Studies
Minor(s): (Anticipated) Education
Career goals: I plan on pursing my Masters of Education and becoming an elementary school teacher. I'm also considering getting my PhD later on and pursuing an administrative position at either a middle school or high school.
Why are you on AEP staff? I see the Afrikan Education Program as an opportunity to give back to African American youth who come from underrepresented communities and low income families. My main goal while being a part of this program is to help individuals become more aware of their ancestry, and to give them a chance to exercise their critical thinking skills. This is also a learning experience for myself and a chance for me to grow as a student and as an educator.
Other organizational involvements: Office Intern at CPO

Programming Coordinator
Name: T. Princess Latimer
Year: 2nd
Major(s): Psychology & Gender Studies
Minor(s): Education
Career goals: In the future I would like to be involved in psychological research to improve our understanding of the natural world and ourselves.
Why are you on AEP staff? I wanted to participate on the AEP because I understand the difficulty of black individuals trying to pursue higher education and retain themselves in predominantly white institutes. I also feel that a lot of black students are limited on learning the history of their own race. For the most part African Americans are always portrayed negatively by the media and I hope that by participating we can not only properly educate these students but change that image. In the long run I hope that they not only learn something about themselves but are inspired to pursue higher education and use us to support their needs as students and as people within the black community.
Other organizational involvements: I am currently signed up to participate in ASU Senior Activities event planning.
